Research Skills Project # 1
Day 1: EVALUATING A SOURCE
Students will learn about primary sources and secondary sources. They will also discuss how to evaluate a source via whole group instruction. A formative assessment will follow in small group.
Day 2: CLOSE READ
Students will learn the value of "close reading" and perform a "close read" on Colonialism. One or more of the following close reads will be used for this session:
Students will complete a document analysis to evaluate each close read.
Day 3: ANALYZING VISUAL EVIDENCE
Day 4: CONTEXTUALIZATION & LOCATING KEY INFORMATION
Students will analyze additional primary and secondary sources to clarify the context of Colonialism.
Day 5: CONTINUE LOCATING KEY INFORMATION
Narrowing the search on the economy and geography of the thirteen colonies, students will complete two graphic organizers using previous information to help limit and specify their research.
DAY 6: SUMMATIVE ASSESSMENT & SELF REFLECTION
Students will answer the essential question in essay form using the following outline guide and rubric.
